The 90th Annual Ploughing Match

The 90th Annual Ploughing Match was held at Hayes Farm, Alberbury by kind invitation of Phil & Ruth Powell on Saturday 23rd September. During the week leading up to the match and all the rain we had, We did wonder if we would have a successful 90th Match but our prayers were answered, the sun shone down on us and we had a perfect day from start to finish.

We had a record entry of Competitors ploughing, with over 95 entries, we enjoyed the wonderful tunes from the Fairground Organ, We enjoyed watching the Threshing Box demonstration from Andrew Goddard and his team, everyone admired the stunning `Steam Sapper` Ploughing Engine and the Tractor & Trailer rides were well attended, taking you around the site and getting a better view of all the ploughing plots, Thank you to you all who took a ride and donated to our hosts chosen charities R.A.B.I. & Midlands Air Ambulance.

A Big Thankyou to our Hosts Phil & Ruth, all of the Cruckton Committee, Judges & Stewards, Sponsors, Agricultural Machinery Companies, Trade stands & the general public, who all came & supported the match. Also, to all our Advertisers in the Match day Programme. Without you all, our Match wouldn’t be possible.

I would like to thank all our Tractor Ploughmen/Women & 9 Horse Teams who put on a great exhibition of how ploughing should be done. Thank you all for making it a great day & a very successful 90th Ploughing Match.Finally, on the Sunday after the match, we held a 90th Sunday Lunch Celebration in the marquee this was held to raise money for our hosts chosen charities R.A.B.I & Midlands Air Ambulance. Representatives from both Charities joined us for the afternoon & we presented each Charity a cheque of £1000 each & gave them the bucket donations from the tractor/ trailer rides. These 2 charities are extremely grateful for all your support.

The 89th Annual Ploughing Match

The 89th Annual Ploughing Match was held at Silverdale, Yockleton by kind invitation of Milton Jones and Family, The Hemmings Family, Myles Thomas & Family and The Bowdler Family on Saturday 17 th September.

The weather was perfect, even though the ground was a little hard we had some excellent ploughing done.

Unfortunately, our Tractor pulling was unable to go ahead due to not getting enough pullers on the day and our `Have a Go` at Horse Ploughing sadly didn’t go ahead due to transport issues, let`s hope we can try and have it again at our 90 th Match next year. BBC Radio Shropshire’s Ryan Kennedy joined us and had a go at Tractor Ploughing, a Big Thank you to Richard from Battlefield Tractors for showing Ryan how to plough on the day. Our Sheep Dog Trials were back this year and were a great attraction to watch.

The 88th Annual Ploughing Match

The 88th Annual Ploughing Match was held at Kinton Business Park, Kinton, Nesscliffe by kind invitation of the Warner & Suckley Families. We had a perfect day from start to finish on Saturday 18th September. After our last match was cancelled in 2020 due to Covid 19, our hosts have been so accommodating and sorted another fabulous site for the match to go ahead this year.

The weather conditions were perfect and we all enjoyed watching some great ploughing, taking place throughout the day.

A Big Thankyou to all of the Cruckton Committee, Judges & Stewards, Sponsors, Agricultural Machinery Companies, Trade stands, Andrew Goddard & his team with his Threshing Box, BBC Ryan Kennedy for coming along and doing the challenge we set, Nesscliffe YFC for all there help & doing the bar and the general public, who all came & supported the match.

Lastly, I would like to thank our 92 Tractor Ploughmen/Women & 5 Horse Teams who put on a great exhibition of how ploughing should be done.. Thankyou all for making it a great day & a very successful match.

 

The 87th Annual Ploughing Match

What a great day we had on the 28th of September 2019. The 87th annual ploughing match was held at Upper Eyton, Alberbury, by kind invitation of Jim & Pat Davies. Click here to download the match results. 

We were very lucky not to get soaked, as the forecast had not been great but the conditions were great, and some great ploughing was to be witnessed. Thanks of course must go to all of the committee, Judges & Stewards, Sponsors, Agricultural machinery demo plots & trade stands for all their support. Plus, most importantly, our competitors, who put on a great exhibition on how ploughing should be done.
